Important 3rd Grade Information
SCHOOL SCHEDULE - The school day begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:00. Students may enter the classroom at 7:45. Dismissal begins around 2:40. All bus riders will be dismissed before car riders in the afternoon.
BEHAVIOR PLAN - We will be using Class DOJO this year. If a student does not receive any negative DOJO points for the week, they will receive a reward on Friday afternoon of that week. Reasons for losing a point might include no homework, blurting out, disrespecting others or materials, negative behavior while outside of the classroom, not returning signed graded papers, not following directions, planner not signed/homework not filled in, or failing to do a classroom job.
Consequences for losing DOJO points (per week):
Loss of 3 points: parent email and silent lunch
Loss of 5 points: parent phone call, silent lunch, and student misses half of Friday Free Play at PE
Loss of 8 points: parent/teacher conference with the student
Loss of 8 points multiple weeks in a row: office referral
COMMUNICATION - Email is the fastest and easiest way for us to keep in contact with you. If you do not check email daily, please let us know so we can send home hard copies of all information. Our website will also stay updated with important information.
PLANNERS - Students are responsible for writing all homework assignments in their planners daily. Please sign your child's planner each night after you have reviewed his or her work.
HOMEWORK - Homework is an important reinforcement for daily work. However, we understand that it is important to have family time at home. Each student is required to read at least 20 minutes each night, which will be recorded on a reading log. Other homework will include weekly spelling homework and math practice sheets. All homework must be completed BEFORE the class that it is due. There will be consequences for unfinished homework.
LUNCH - Please make sure your child has lunch money each day. Applications for free and reduced lunch must be filled out every year. You may send lunch money to the school or add money to your child’s account on “MealPay Plus.” (You should have received information relating to this program at registration.)
BIRTHDAYS - You may bring a snack for your child's birthday if you contact your teacher at least one day in advance. We can also celebrate summer birthdays with a snack on whatever day you choose, as long as you let your teacher know ahead of time. Whole-class birthday snacks may not be brought to lunch-only to the classroom.
P.E. - It is mandatory for students to wear or bring appropriate shoes and clothing for P.E. each day.
TRANSPORTATION - If your child will go home a different way than usual, PLEASE send a note or email, or call the school before 2:00 PM. If the teacher has not responded to your email, please assume that she has not checked or received it and call the office immediately to notify the school of any changes.
GRADES - Grades are posted to the computer weekly. You can check your child's grades through STI at any time. Tests in Math and Reading are weighted 65%. Classwork and quizzes are weighted 25%, and homework/participation is weighted 10%.
GRADED PAPERS - Graded papers will be sent home on Thursday of each week. Please sign and return all of these papers by Monday of the following week. Failure to do so will result in the loss of a DOJO point. This is a school wide policy.
